KuroiBlog’s new purposes

Changing the direction of my posts

Saying I’m going to change the direction of a blog that in two years has only gotten only one post is kinda weird but bear with me here!

If you read the said single post, I mentioned KuroiOS was created as a work portfolio to help showcase my frontend skills (and it did help me land my current job, yay!). The blog was made to complement the portfolio, and my intention was to write a series of posts on how I built KuroiOS and all the struggles and solutions I faced during the development. I also wanted to post content about coding, maybe a few tutorials and stuff. But as you can see, the first post has remained lonely to this day…

Writing about how I developed my website sounded SO tiring, and I never really felt compelled to write about coding and web dev solutions, as I never thought I was skilled enough to help people with their coding problems (lol impostor syndrome). As the initial purpose of this blog was to be quite professional, it just made me not want to interact with it at all after the initial post. Not to mention that KuroiOS changed direction VERY quickly, as it had so much potential I didn’t want it to be only a work portfolio, but a personal playground for me to experiment with my skills. Later on I got to know about Neocities and all the cool personal websites it has, so from there on KuroiOS was no longer a business card, but my own little corner of the Internet where I could do everything the way I wanted!

Still, the blog remained untouched. I had no idea what I could write here, and even with my new vision about having my own personal space on the internet, I’ve never really felt my thoughts would be interesting to anyone. It’s a struggle I always had with people seeing my writings, for some unknown reason.

After having some really pleasant interactions with people all over the Indie Web, I was able to help a few people with coding tips and other related suggestions. One thing I noticed is that social media nowadays made me feel like I needed to monetize everything I did. What a fool would I be if I just put my ideas and web dev tricks out there for free?? Is that even possible? Turns out it is, and it feels REALLY good to be able to help. I feel like this sense of community was kinda lost in the past few years due to social media culture.

So with that in mind, I decided I would use my blog to offer a few tricks more directed to the indie web devs out there. Feels more relaxed than making a really professional blog that I would hate writing. I’m not a Medium writer after all!

I’ve been reading many personal blogs recently and I love when people share their thoughts about whatever it is. I want to break the shame I have of my own thoughts and try to write more about whatever is on my mind here. I’d like to write book, movie and game reviews, maybe a few rants and rambles here and there… who knows where this blog will take me 🙂
